Shoot-day checklist and what a location release covers
Updated October 26, 2026 · For productions and creators working with adult performers aged 18+.
Booking the location is half the job. This checklist covers the day itself, from arrival to the final walkthrough, and the terms your location agreement (sometimes called a location release) should spell out before anyone arrives. It's practical guidance, not legal advice.
What the location agreement should cover
Get these in writing, signed by the person with authority to rent the property, before shoot day:
- Who and what: the production company, the owner, and confirmation that adult production of the agreed type is permitted.
- When: dates and hours, including load-in, the shoot and load-out, and what happens if you run over.
- Where: which rooms and outdoor areas you can use, and any that are off limits.
- How many: the maximum number of people on site, and parking arrangements.
- Money: the rate, the deposit and when it's returned, cleaning fees, and how damage is assessed.
- Insurance: the certificate the owner requires, and who must be named on it.
- Privacy: the address stays private; no exterior shots showing the house number or street; no filming of personal items.
- Cancellation: what each side owes if the shoot is cancelled or moved.
Before you arrive
- Share the address and access details only with crew who need them.
- Confirm the call sheet with the owner's rules: parking, noise, hours, rooms.
- Have your permit, insurance certificate and performer records ready (see permits).
- Pack linens, towels, drop cloths, rubbish bags and cleaning supplies.
On arrival
- Walk through with the owner or their contact; photograph the condition of each room you'll use.
- Confirm any cameras inside the home are switched off, and agree on areas that stay closed.
- Protect floors and furniture before lights and stands come in.
- Check every performer's ID and paperwork before filming starts. Everyone on set must be 18+.
During the shoot
- Keep to the agreed rooms, headcount and hours; keep doors and curtains closed where neighbours could see.
- Keep exterior shots free of house numbers, street signs, plates and neighbouring homes.
- Don't post anything showing the location while you're there.
Wrap and walkthrough
- Clean, remove all rubbish and return furniture to where it was (use your arrival photos).
- Do a final walkthrough with the owner; note anything damaged and agree next steps in writing.
- Return keys or access codes exactly as agreed.
